Interstellar Overdrive – thats what wikipedia writes about it : „Interstellar Overdrive“ is a psychedelic composition written by Pink Floyd in 1966, which appears on their 1967 debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn at almost ten minutes in length. An earlier, longer recording, 16:52, can be heard on the soundtrack to the film Tonite Let’s All Make Love in London, which was released in the same year.Other versions of the track appear on various bootleg recordings. The original version was ranked number 36 on „Rolling Stone“ magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitar songs of all time.
I heard this piece the first time at the age of 12. I ´ve been a great fan of the Beatles and Elvis . My father went always having a beer or two to the gasoline station in our town . The son of the owner was also a great music fan; i told my father to ask him wheather he could copy me an album or two from the Beatles or Elvis on a tape ( this magnetic tape you remember it ? )
My father bought me five or six of these tapes and handed them over to this 20 year old long- haired guy . After a couple of weeks he returned the tapes to me , oh i was so happy , six tapes with the wonderful music from the Fab Four and the King of Rock N Roll , i put one of them immediatly in my radio recorder and ……..heard—— this song— Interstellar Overdrive from Pink Floyd , i listened to it for a while and decided to change the tape, but he copied instead of the beloved King of Rock N Roll the whole psychedelic collection of Pink Floyd on my tapes and instead of the Boys from Liverpool i had to hear the rock sound of UFO , i think i´ve cried i little bit afterwards when i discovered to my disappointment that i would not find the music i´ve wanted on these tapes…….and forgot them (the tapes ) …….a couple of years later i discovered them in one of my wardrobes and changed my opinion ^^ you see sometimes it takes time to discover the love for a special thing …….
